What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a gentle non-invasive, holistic therapy that works to promote self-healing and helps to restore balance within the body. It is based on the principle that every organ and system of the body has a corresponding reflex point on the feet (as well as the hands). In other words, the feet are like a miniature map of the body (For Interactive Foot Map click here). During a treatment, the reflexologist applies varying degrees of pressure to these reflex points using the thumbs and fingers. From this, a deep relaxation can be reached, helping alleviate tension and in turn allowing the body to activate its own healing process. As the therapy is based on treating the 'whole' person, this allows for any underlying imbalances within the body to be treated as well as the presenting symptoms. Reflexologists do not diagnose illness or prescribe medication.

What can I expect from a treatment?
The first session will include an initial consultation where I will ask you about your medical history and general lifestyle and we can discuss a suitable treatment plan. A reflexology treatment will follow. Please allow about an hour and a half for this session. Subsequent treatments will be approximately 1 hour.
During a treatment you will normally be in a reclined position. Only shoes and socks need be removed. The treatment will involve gentle pressure being placed on feet, ankles and lower calves (or hands if appropriate).
Reflexology is a great way to escape a busy, stressful lifestyle and take time out to simply relax body and mind.
Reflexology for a specific (especially chronic/long term) condition is more effective when received as a course of treatment - in this case, a series of weekly treatments is likely to be recommended.
